New Review Page Setup

I’ve cleaned up the website a little bit, and have added a new section that will collect reviews. You can see the new page here. The graphic below shows how the reviews are structured.

Here is an example of the last five reviews I have uploaded (click on the [+] symbol to see the drop-down blurb):

So far, the categories I’ve included are: Books, Movies, Shows, Software, & Hardware. I might add “travel” as a category, but we’ll see how it goes.

Reshmanshu Wedding Pictures

Rehsmanshu Wedding

48 pictures, showcasing the wedding of Reshma and Heman, have been posted to the gallery.

The wedding ceremony took place on Friday night, with the reception the following day. As you would expect, it was quite a party. In addition to an all-out assault on the dance floor, there was even a chocolate fondue fountain.

One of the funnier moments of the night was challenge for all to outdo the notoriously boisterous punjabis in the neighbouring banquet hall.

Family and friends flew in from California, Switzerland, Japan, and New Westminster (DPrior). Speeches given by family members and the bride and groom were excellent – as was the touching proposal video shown on the big screens.

See the gallery for more, or take a look at the wedding’s dedicated website.

NganCyr Union in Chemainus

[Update: See the dedicated wedding website here. It is an excellent production]

Yes, I’m falling behind in posting pictures of late.

The latest gallery is up and it features shots from the acclaimed NganCyr wedding (Credit out to dprior for that creation).

An example of a town Mural – they are on all buildings in the two centre

The locale was the beautiful township of Chemainus, a Vancouver Island town famed for its murals and now closed logging Mill.

As you will see, the wedding took place in a spectacular setting, overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

If you would like larger copies of any of the pictures, just let me know and I will provide.

First of the Summer Weddings, and Whistler

Pictures are now up from two events that took place over the last couple of weeks:

  • Mark’s and Jac’s wedding and reception
  • Biggie’s Summer Trip to Whistler

The Wedding

wedding

Everything went very well from the get go. Perhaps the most punctual of all weddings I’ve ever attended. Food was outstanding, wedding cake tasted nice until late in the night, facility was beautiful, but the best parts were seeing so many old friends & hearing the stories speeches by the newlyweds’ families. Biggie’s Summer Trip to Whistler

whistler

We made many trips up to Whistler during the previous (epic) ski season, but it was a little different heading up now that the snow has melted. It was the first warm weekend in awhile so it was a great way to kick off the summer – The lakes were even “swimable” (despite being very cold). We did some biking, horsing, and swimming – Pictures are up to prove it. You can see the gallery here.

Post CFA-Season

Perfect timing: Just when CFA season ends, work loads it on heavy.

I’m on a break in the middle of an 18hr day – It’s 6AM, and I’ve still got another 7 hours left before I can go home – sounds like fun, no?

……

This is the summer of love, and there are many weddings to prove it. Unfortunately, due to work, I won’t be able to attend all the weddings I would like to. I’ll post some pictures as soon as I get a chance.

Insider Deals on Computers!

IBM z60

Are you in the market for a new Notebook or Desktop computer? Would you consider yourself a member of my “Friends or Family” group?

If you said yes to both those questions, then you need to send me an email.

I’ve had a couple of friends buy Computers with my “family and friends” discount program so far, and I thought this would be a good way to get the word out. There are some great deals on Z60‘s and T43‘s – and there is no question that IBM/Lenovo makes the best hardware.

Interested? Just send me an email and I’ll give you the link.

Ski Season is Over for me

It’s time to reflect on what an outstanding ski season it has been.

………..

Yes, without a doubt, I had more fun on snow this year than any of the 18 seasons in which I have skied.

To prove it, there are some pictures up from the final trip of the year.

Apples now Outvalues Dell

Can’t you just taste the hype?

MacDailyNews – Apple and Mac News :

On October 6, 1997, in response to the question of what he’d do if he was in charge of Apple Computer, Dell founder and then CEO Michael Dell stood before a crowd of several thousand IT executives and answered flippantly, “What would I do? I’d shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders.”

Last year Apple made $1.3B on $14B revenues, and showed some increadibly strong earnings growth, while Dell has continued steady revenue and earnings growth through the previous four years ($3B earnings on $49B revenue). I still can’t imagine Apple being able to sustain the momentum it currently enjoys: if I had a choice, I’d own Dell over Apple.

Both have strong brands, but Dell has survived in the face of strong competition (and has a sustainable advantage in its lauded supply chain), whereas Apple is reliant on fickle consumers buying today’s hottest toy – We’ll see what happens when Apple sees its first real competitors emerge.

Class warfare in the USA?

Why is there no class warfare in the USA? It’s an interesting question and Chuck Collins has done a great job in explaining the answer – you can watch his presentation here. He is a co-author of “Wealth and Our Commonwealth: Why America Should Tax Accumulated Fortunes” with Bill Gates Senior.

During his presentation, he uncovered a bombshell of a fact:
Americans polled were asked whether they believed they were in the top 1% of earners – and 20% of those polled said they believed they were. (This is a mildly suprising fact, just in the scale of the misperception out there – see lake Wobegon\). The next question asked was whether they believed they would eventually be a part of this illustrious 1% of top earners – and another 20% said they believed they would be in the top 1% of earners.

Taken together, 40% of the American population believes that they either are in the top 1%, or will be in the top 1% of earners. Wow. In case you are wondering what this 1% equates to in gross salary, it is about $400,000.
